On November 16, from 10 a.m. onwards, the online workshop “The gender approach, key to move towards a Responsible Tourism in Sub-Saharan Africa” will take place, dedicated to companies in the Catalan tourism sector.
The objective of the Workshop is to provide the Catalan tourism sector with the essential gender-sensitive elements to improve both the design and operations of travel in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, within the framework of Responsible Tourism.
And to promote commercial relationships between different operators based on Responsible Tourism criteria.
During the Workshop we will have the participation of Dr. Daniela Moreno Alarcón.

During the Workshop via zoom, Dr. Daniela Moreno will review the principles that relate the gender approach to the tourism sector, contextualizing with examples from the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Dr. Daniela Moreno Alarcón
Senior consultant and researcher with 15 years of experience in the fields of gender mainstreaming, gender transformative training and sustainable development. She is one of the leading experts on tourism with a gender perspective.
She has extensive experience as a trainer in gender issues and as a
expert in gender mainstreaming in many organizations, including: UNWTO, UN Women, ITC-ILO, ECLAC, FIIAPP, IDB, World Bank Group, Global Women Institute of the George Washington University (GWI) and OAS. She has recently been the lead expert in the field of gender indicators, monitoring and evaluation for the UNWTO project “Centre Stage:
women’s empowerment during COVID- 19 recovery”, in which one of its tasks was to design four action plans with a gender perspective for Jordan, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, as well as to provide comments to the UNWTO guidelines on gender mainstreaming. She currently works as an expert on tourism and gender for ECLAC and UNWTO and is the director of the GENDERPRO training course at George Washington University.

While in Myanmar, he collaborated with various associations, civil society and government agencies in Myanmar on responsible tourism and CBT development, including the “Do’s and Don’ts for Tourists” brochure, destination planning, organizational development of local tourism organizations and the creation of a CBT Network group. She is also co-founder of the social enterprise Thant Myanmar, which works with the tourism sector on plastic reduction and sustainability issues in Myanmar.
In 2019, he co-founded Tierranjani Africa Ltd. in Kenya, a consultancy specializing in responsible tourism development and sustainability, which is active in Ethiopia, Tunisia, Gambia and Sierra Leone, etc.. Its projects include, among others, business planning, destination development, community-based tourism, capacity building (training, coaching and mentoring), sustainability certification, facilitation and strategy development, etc.
