This project has the support of the Catalan Development Cooperation Agency (ACCD) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and is jointly managed by Aethnic and the Institute of Travel and Tourism of Gambia (ITTOG), a reference entity in Gambia in training , training and promotion in the field of responsible tourism.

Aethnic has been working in The Gambia for over ten years and ITTOG is one of its closest partners. There is also the collaboration of the CSO Women’s Platform of Gambia, a leading organization in the defense of women’s rights and gender equality.

Targets

The No Woman Left Behind (NWLB) project aims to train and encourage the employment of women at risk of social exclusion to become professionals in sustainable and responsible tourism (TRS) in The Gambia.

Many of these women have been victims of domestic, sexual or returnees from other countries. For this reason, the project emphasizes professional training and the empowerment of civil rights as tools for their employment within the framework of the emerging responsible tourism sector and within the framework of the social and solidarity economy (ESS).

The Project seeks the promotion and development of the incipient Responsible and Sustainable Tourism as an alternative model to extractivist and mass tourism in Africa, improving the socio-cultural capacities of women.
The cessation of tourist activity as a result of the Covid19 pandemic has been an opportunity to rethink the tourism model in Africa in terms of sustainability and social and environmental responsibility and to involve the set of social actors to achieve this
