Promoting the social and solidarity economy in the tourism ecosystem of the Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima region with a gender perspective

Targets

The project aims to promote responsible and sustainable tourism in Chaouen linked to the social and solidarity economy (SSE) for the benefit of women artisans in the provinces of Chaouen and Ouazzane.

It seeks to consolidate the cooperatives of women artisans of Khizana, Dar Nahla and D’Har in terms of self-management, production of their innovative products and also marketing, mainly in the tourist center of Chaouen.

In turn, the project also plans to boost the tourism sector, specifically Chaouen hotels and rural houses in the province with the aim of adopting good practices, more sustainable and stimulate the direct link with cooperatives favoring a social and solidarity economy, which uses local raw materials, produces with innovation, but maintaining traditional techniques.

 

Activities Carried Out

  • Technical training in internal management and production costs.
  • Training in sales techniques and creation of marketing plan
  • Gender, human rights and environmental awareness.
  • Design and creation of 3 stands for 3 hotels/rural houses in Chaouen to exhibit and sell products of the cooperatives.
  • Encouraging the private sector to adopt sustainable practices and social and solidarity economy practices through the purchase of products from cooperatives.
  • Exchange of experiences between the private and public sectors of Chaouen and Barcelona for a tourism that includes SSE.

results

  • R.1.1 – 3 Cooperatives/Associations of women artisans have increased their self-management capacity.
  • R.1.2 – 3 Cooperatives of women artisans have increased marketing channels for their handicraft products.
  • R.1.3 – Gender Justice has been promoted in the 3 communities where the cooperatives/associations are located through the assessment of community resources.
  • R.2.1 – The tourism sector has been energized (private, public and civil society participation) to promote responsible and sustainable tourism with Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) criteria.
